The rumours surrounding Edinson Cavani does not seem to go away even after the end of the transfer window. He continues to be linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in January.
Due to the injury troubles faced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the start of the season, Cavani has been getting more game time as the central striker. The Uruguayan has stated on several occasions that he is not ready to play out wide due to the presence of Ibrahimovic. His goal return has suffered as a result of playing as a winger.
Even though Cavani has been starting as the central striker more regularly in the last few weeks, it has not exactly translated into goals for PSG. The French club have been going through a very poor run in the league, as they have been drawing most of their games. Marseille have been the team to beat in the French league this season and they are top of the table with a four-point advantage over Laurent Blanc’s team. Cavani has scored only four goals in the 11 matches and goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo has done little to quell the speculation. Alonzo says that Cavani is clearly not happy and PSG will see the best of him only when he is on the right mood.
"We no longer recognize Cavani. He looks sad, his eyes no longer sparkle. With Cavani before, Paris can score a fourth goal late in the game. But his game is stereotyped," said Alonzo. Arsene Wenger has responded by saying that Cavani is a player who is of great interest to him. "I love him as a player. I love the Matador's attitude on the field. But I think he's playing a little with the brake pulled up. I think at PSG is he not able to give his best, perhaps because of the presence of Ibrahimovic,” said Wenger.
